HOW TO: Re-energize your home during lockdown

Our home is our sanctuary, and that couldn't be more true with the majority of us locked down at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the ongoing lockdown, a lot of us are feeling the effects on our mental health and sense of well-being. Being inside for long periods of time can have a negative impact on our mood for a number of reasons.

The good news is that there are a few things that we can do to re-energise our home space and create a happier lockdown experience.

FRESH AIR

The air inside our homes can become stale quite easily if we don’t get in the habit of daily ventilation. Stale air can impact negatively on our mood and energy levels, so by opening up windows to let those fresh breezes flow (and bringing positively charged energy with it!), we can instantly create a fresher happier home.

SUNLIGHT

Don’t underestimate the power of the sun on your mood! While you may be tempted to spend the entire lockdown stuffed away in a dark room watching movies, you will soon start feeling the negative effects from lack of sunshine.

Sunlight has a huge effect on our moods (Ever heard of a 'sunny disposition'?), encouraging our brains to release the positive hormone serotonin and helping us sleep better at night. So draw back those curtains, roll up those blinds and let the sunshine stream through (your house plants will thank you as well!).

CLEANING

Ever walked into a home & smelled that it was fresh & clean? How did you feel? Cleaning is a great way of refreshing the energy within your home. Vacuuming gets rid of all that dust and dirt sitting around, wiping down surfaces with anti-bacterial spray and washing bed linen, couch covers & throw rugs will all make your home a happier place to live. While a good spring clean does take a bit of effort, nothing beats the feeling of sitting back in a squeaky clean home that smells amazing.

AROMATHERAPY

Smell is an incredibly powerful sense and has the ability to impact our energy and transport us to another time and place. Scent can transform our mood, spark memories and even improve our cognition. By lighting a candle, burning some incense or, even better, saging your entire home (click here for instructions),  you'll instantly feel the difference.
