What is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis (CF) primarily affects the lungs and digestive system because of a malfunction in the exocrine system, which is responsible for producing saliva, sweat, tears, and mucus. CF is the most common, life-limiting genetic condition affecting Australians. Over 3,730 people are living with CF in Australia, and 1 in 25 people carry the recessive CF gene change.
Cystic Fibrosis is a life threatening condition that affects the lungs and digestive system; it has a devastating impact on the people it affects.
Since 2008 with the support of the community we have raised a total of $110,460 for Cystic Fibrosis. This event not only raised crucial funds for CF research but also brought our community together for a day of fun and solidarity.
We look forward to your support
Let's see a Sea of Red for Cystic Fibrosis on Sunday 3rd August 2025!!

Walkers - Outline of the day
This year’s Brooms to Bowlo charity day for Cystic Fibrosis is beginning to ramp up, with lots of past community members reaching out to us, telling us they are looking forward to the event. Below is an outline of the day and what you might like to bring with you on your walk. This is a beautiful stretch of our coastline, and you can walk the track as fast as you like. However, it is nice to walk at a pace that you can enjoy the scenery and the company.
7.00am - Bus pickup
- Wards Buses will pick walkers up from the Yamba Bowling Club and transport to Brooms Head
- Please arrive 7.00am, as bus will leave 7.30am sharp.
8.30am - Walk begins
- Walk begins at 8.30am from the Brooms Head Hall - Toilet facilities here, Red Cliff, Shelley Beach Camp Area & Angourie Point.
- The walk will be along the Brooms Head main beach to Redcliffe. We will climb the stairs at Red Cliff and walk over the headland and back down onto the beach and onto Plumbago Headland.
- Once over Plumbago Headland we are back on the beach. Walk along to the small creek outlet (roughly ¾ up the beach) You will need to go off the beach onto the dune track behind the beach. (PLEASE TAKE NOTE: IF YOU CONTINUE ALONG THE BEACH, YOU WILL BE CONFRONTED WITH A STEEP CLIFF. Best going through the little forest walk).
- Follow the Yuraygir Coast Walk along the track which will bring you around to the Shelley Beach Headland and then onto the camping ground at Shelley (there is a toilet break here). You have made it half way! This is a great spot for a halfway snack.
- Continue to walk along Little Shelley Beach to the Northern corner and pick up the track to take you over the headland and along to the old Dirrigan Lookout and from there to the Southern end of Back Beach Angourie. Proceed down the timber steps onto the beach and walk along the beach to Angourie Point and up to Angourie Point Lookout.
- From Angourie Point Look Out walk along the road until you come to Barry Street and then down to the Angourie Cafe. Opposite the Angourie Cafe there is a track that will take you back down onto the Spooky’s Beach and around the headland to Greenpoint. (please be careful as the rocks can be slippery).
- From Greenpoint along the beach to Pippi Beach and up off the beach at Dolphin Park. Once at the road turn left onto Pacific Pde, walk 30m then turn right into River Street, you are on the final stretch to a well earned lunch and cold drink!
- In case you feel you are struggling and need to be collected we ask that you make your way to Angourie Point as this is the first place we will be able to collect you. Please call the Yamba Bowlo on 02 6646 2305 and follow the prompts to the bar.
Arrive at the Yamba Bowling Club
- Upon arrival at the Bowls Club - Lunch will be served from 1pm through to 2.30pm – you will be issued with a lunch and drink voucher when departing the bus.
- Raffle of mixed prizes, donated by local businesses. Tickets will be sold on the day $2 each or 3 for $5! So, bring along your spare change, you could win a great prize.
